When an originally specified 47KL detention tank solution became unavailable, a new residential development in Southport was left with an unexpected challenge: finding a suitable alternative that could deliver without disruption.
Ocean Protect stepped in with the UrbanPond™ precast tank system, offering the added advantage of fast, straightforward installation.
The Background
The original design called for four units of 12KL precast concrete tanks to provide the required detention. When the specified system could no longer be supplied, finding a practical replacement that could be efficiently delivered and installed was an important consideration.
Fewer Units, Faster Installation
Our team designed, supplied and installed a two-module DUP22 UrbanPond™ system to provide the required detention volume.
The UrbanPond™ is a trafficable precast concrete below-ground storage system designed for detention and retention applications. Its high void ratio maximises available storage volume, while its robust precast construction allows the system to be buried deeper without specialised backfill, increased wall thickness or additional reinforcement.
The size and capacity of the individual UrbanPond™ modules also meant the required detention volume could be achieved with fewer modules than the originally specified rectangular tank configuration.
Covering All Bases
While the UrbanPond™ is designed for efficient installation, this project reinforced the importance of getting the site ready before the modules arrive.
Correct preparation of the sub-base, appropriate benching of the excavation and clear access into the excavation site are all critical to achieving a smooth and efficient installation.
With the right base in place, the UrbanPond™ provides a straightforward approach to installation, even on sites where access may be constrained. For this development, our solution delivered the required detention capacity with no delays to construction.
