Microplastics Found in Every NSW Waterway in Landmark Study

The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has undertaken and published a broadscale microplastic assessment of 120 coastal waterways in the state. The report found microplastics in every waterway studied, with the highest concentrations recorded in urban environments.

Microplastics pose a serious threat to marine life, the environment, and human life. This study establishes a baseline understanding of the microplastic pollution levels in NSW coastal waterways and provides a gateway to understanding the sources, the impacts, and the actions that we can take to mitigate the problem.
